WINNER 2024
World’s Leading Luxury Green Resort
Named the World’s Leading Luxury Green Resort at the 2024 World Travel Awards for the fifth year running, Sani Resort embraces a multitude of sustainable initiatives under our sustainability programme, Sani Green.
Environmental Responsibility
Sustainability
is our
Responsibility
Scattered across 1,000 acres of nature reserve, Sani Resort sits at the intersection of three beautiful, natural worlds: the sea, forest and wetlands. Recognised for 3 consecutive years as the ‘World’s Leading Luxury Green Resort’ at the World Travel Awards, we are deeply committed to preserving this environment and its rich mix of wildlife, as well as supporting the local community so that guests can experience the natural wonder of Sani for years to come.
Zero Carbon Footprint Project
The First Carbon
Neutral Resort in Greece
In 2020, we became the first carbon neutral resort in Greece and the resort has been running on 100% renewable energy since 2019. Discover how our Zero Carbon Footprint project continues to upgrade our carbon efficiency with programmes up until 2024.
At the heart of our vision and values is the Sani Green programme, our commitment to sustainability. Under Sani Green, we are continuously working to improve our energy efficiency, renewable energy use, water conservation, waste minimisation and sustainable procurement. Our key Sani Green initiatives are supported by a set of policies and measurable targets, all in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
At Sani, we are committed to sustainability. In 2021, Sani Resort has recycled over 219 tonnes of glass and ensured all single use plastics (EU List) are banned. We’ve reduced our energy consumption by 3% this year; our electricity is supplied exclusively by renewable energy sources and we’re reducing our CO2 emissions at a steady pace, with the goal of a Zero Carbon Footprint Project.
Preserving local biodiversity is of utmost importance to Sani, our Wetlands project focuses on protection and education. With an area of approximately 110 hectares, the wetlands are home to over 225 species of birds – with many of them rare and globally endangered. Since 2013, we have seen an increase of 680% in our Birdwatching tours, and in 2019 alone, over 3,400 guests participated in a Sani Eco Excursion.
Sani is a keen supporter of the local community. From donations to local charities and institutions, creating a village library, church or playgrounds, to using local growers for over 60% of fruit and vegetables and opening our facilities to locals.

The Precious Wetlands
In partnership with the Hellenic Ornithological Society, we run guided eco trips where guests can learn more about our vision for the future of sustainable tourism — including our carbon offsetting project in development in the wetlands.

Community Spirit
We are invested in the success and wellbeing of the local community, donating to charities and projects that enhance the region for locals by providing playgrounds or village libraries. We are also proud to sponsor local suppliers to help them follow sustainable practices, as well as monitor our supply chain for sustainable packaging and operations. We source ingredients from the freshest local produce, such as fragrant pine honey from the forest, and truffle and wild mushrooms from the Halkidiki mountains.
THE SANI DONATION INITIATIVE
SHARE MORE
WASTE LESS
Share your happiness with others and delight in the joy of sustainable giving, we invite you to pass on your unwanted clothes, shoes and toys to a new home with our donation initiative.
We’ll place a donation basket to leave any unwanted items in your room the day before you check out. Big or small, your pre-loved items will be gratefully received.
The Environmental Observatory Project
PROTECT & PRESERVE
As an old-growth Aleppo pine ecosystem, the regeneration of Sani Forest is vital to ensuring its longevity. We have created the Sani Environmental Observatory Project in partnership with the Forest Research Institute to preserve the forest, its wildlife and the surrounding wetlands. Upon checkout, we’ll invite you to add a €1 donation to your bill which we will then match, making your contribution go even further. By closely monitoring Sani Forest and conserving its wildlife and forest trails, we aim to protect our surroundings for future generations.
Land of Grace
Our very own range of delectable food and wine, produced exclusively for Sani by local artisans and vineyards. Designed to take you on a true culinary adventure, you can sample the products in selected restaurants across the resort and are available to purchase at Sani markets. We donate all profits to local food banks for vulnerable communities.
As part of our commitment to protecting our wonderful environment, we have developed programmes with specially selected non-profit partners to preserve biodiversity. These programmes help foster deep connections between our partners and Sani Resort’s three natural worlds.
