TOM ODELL

WATCH FILM

Tom Odell has said of music that it can act as ‘an outstretched hand, alleviating loneliness.’ No wonder then that his music resonates with the heartbroken. After all, it was with his debut extended play, ‘Songs from Another Love’, that the English musician shot to fame - winning a BRIT Award and an Ivor Novello Award and causing one reviewer to refer to his haunting vocal as being ‘imbued with heart-breaking darkness.’

A masterful pianist, the piano is central to Odell’s music and indeed his every track. Inspired by his older sister starting lessons, the young Odell began learning himself at age seven and had already turned his hand to be composing by the time he turned nine. It should come then as no surprise then that Odell cites Elton John as a huge influence: his first record was the artist’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”.

Other greats to have inspired the singer-songwriter include Jeff Buckley, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen and Joni Mitchell. However, it’s David Bowie’s mesmerizing energy that Odell is considered to bring to the stage, as fans gathered on Sani Hill shall experience this summer as the artist serenades Sani Hill with his powerful melodies, speaking directly to his audience’s heart.
