Sani Festival 2022
30th Anniversary

This year, Sani Festival marks 30 years of history.

A festival that is a story of love for music and the arts, that shaped a path of innovation, quality and high aesthetics. An entrepreneurial initiative that surpassed all expectations to bridge tourism and culture, Sani Festival has forged a path of international recognition and reach, putting Sani Resort and Halkidiki region firmly on the map of the global music scene.

From the first few melodies of Jazz to ring out on the Hill in 1992, Stavros and Niki Andreadis’ musical hopes for Sani Festival were destined to succeed – which is why Sani Festival is one of the country’s foremost cultural institutions - bringing joy from on Sani Hill, where the sea, sky and greenery coexist in harmony, against a backdrop of a medieval tower.

Three decades and 385 concerts, performances, events: Jan Garbarek, Cesaria Evora, Kenny Barron, Ahmad Jamal, Tito Puente, Milva, Hank Jones, Ray Brown, Abbey Lincoln, Charlie Haden, Cassandra Wilson, Yann Tiersen, Lila Downs, Lee Konitz, Paul Bley, Arturo Sandoval, Charles Lloyd, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Tord Gustavsen, Lizz Wright, Joss Stone, Daniel Hope, Yaron Herman, Youn Sun Nah, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Brad Mehldau, Esbjorn Svensson, Omar Sosa, Milton Nascimento, Peter Greenaway, Michel Legrand, Branford Marsalis, Richard Galliano, Alison Moyet, Nikos Papazoglou, Dionysis Savvopoulos, Eleni Karaindrou, Alkistis Protopsalti, Eleftheria Arvanitaki, Dimitra Galani, George Dalaras, Manolis Mitsias, Stavros Xarchakos, Maria Farantouri, Thanos Mikroutsikos.

Living legends and new creators from around the world, as well as Greek artists, have now been ascending Sani Hill for thirty years – the setting where we congregate for the summer festival, to witness musical genius and experience the soothing ritual of music.

Because just as “jazz is a way of thinking” (Nina Simone), so too is entrepreneurship – breathing live into a vision and creating something unique, that has become a point of reference on the cultural map and a world-class festival of three decades: Sani Festival.

Celebrating 30 years of Sani Festival

with a top-class concert of the world’s most beloved tenor,
Andrea Bocelli,
as well as performances from jazz, pop and rock legends, and leading Greek performers
9 July – 20 August | Sani Hill

The timeless value of music is defined by the impact it has over time.

The same goes for the value of the institutions that serve it.

Honouring its continuous trajectory, adhering to the quality and prestige of the concerts it presents, this year’s anniversary edition of Sani Festival presents a unique in Greece, impressive and refreshingly disruptive programme. Sani Hill will welcome foreign and Greek concerts that are milestones of this summer. Living legends of the jazz, pop and rock scene, for whom the festival is one of few stops on their tours, and artists returning to Greece after decades are just some of the musical propositions that comprise this year’s feast:

Chucho Valdés, Paquito D’Rivera, Al Di Meola, Jack Savoretti, Bob Geldof. Rock and pop music enter the festival’s music repertoire for the first time, as a festival that continues to evolve. At the same time, two Greek productions specially designed to celebrate 30 years showcase an institution that innovates and sparks creativity, with great Greek performers in participation: Manolis Mitsias, Christos Thivaios, Eleni Tsaligopoulou, Penny Baltatzi, Dimitris Basis, Rena Morfi, Doros Dimosthenous, Rita Antonopoulou, Kostas Thomaidis, Kalliopi Pouska. This fete of music will conclude with an emblematic concert, where an artist of mythical status will ascend the stage of Sani Festival: Andrea Bocelli, performing within arm’s reach of the limited number of attendees to enjoy the most highly anticipated music event of this summer!

Join us this summer at Sani Hill, the setting where we congregate for the summer festival, to witness melody become experience and music become ritual; to celebrate a festival story of 30 years, Sani Festival.

A musical journey, a magical experience.

The equation of cultural tourism was solved 2,500 years ago with the theatrical games in Ancient Greece. Today, this equation is exhausting itself in the cultural heritage, ignoring the modern artistic creation.
Sani Festival, a benchmark institution with tremendous impact and recognition is the only one deriving its characteristics from its purely private initiative, refraining from populism and elitism and playing a distinct role of consistency and continuity.
This year we are celebrating its 30th birthday and confirm its popularity and history by inviting famous foreign artists, introducing the international forefront, structuring Greek prototype projects and balancing harmonically between extroversion and local artistic production.
Moreover, we are facing the challenge of this double attribute of real art, trying to answer to its perpetual question, by finding the golden equilibrium between high aesthetics and satisfaction. In that way, we establish our region as a cultural destination, always having this Festival as the means to accomplish this target.
Some people say that the music on the hill, across the tower, right in the middle of the sea, under the moon and stars, goes back to a metaphysical, magical experience which is engraved indelibly in people’s hearts. They also say life’s true wealth is our most important moments which are kept safe in our memory.
So… we are inviting you to enjoy yourselves. Let us all celebrate together and create common memories so as to reminisce we were always present in the most important moments... and in 2022 we were all present at Sani Festival!

The timeless value of music is defined by the impact it has over time.
The same goes for the value of the institutions that serve it.

Sani Festival has been for three decades -from its inception until today- a story of love for music and the arts; of the people who created it and those who served it. An entrepreneurial initiative that, through its sensitivity, has shaped a path of innovation and quality, a route of international recognition and reach. In 2003 when I first climbed up Sani Hill as a member of the team, I could never have imagined that I was gazing over the horizon of the world music scene, and an institution that would become so much part of me, that we would grow up together.
