Emeli Sandé

03 AUGUST 2024

Having grown up as a shy teenager in rural Aberdeenshire, Emeli Sandé is the daughter of a Zambian father and a mother from a working-class Cumbrian family. Despite her humble beginnings, she has risen to become one of Britain’s most successful and respected artists, honoured with an MBE for her contributions to music in 2017. Singing represented freedom for her as a child, providing a safe space to explore her identity and drawing inspiration from legends like Nina Simone. While studying medicine at Glasgow University, she often found herself composing songs during lectures, eventually mustering the courage to pursue her musical dreams. In 2012, she delivered a mesmerising performance at the London Olympics, followed by winning the Critics’ Choice prize at the BRIT Awards in 2013. Praised by legendary artists such as Madonna and Alicia Keys, her debut album ‘Our Version of Events’ remains one of the best-selling records of the 2010s, featuring hit singles like ‘Heaven’, ‘Read All About It’, and ‘Next To Me.’ Now touring with her fifth studio album, ‘How Were We To Know,’ Emeli Sandé will grace Sani Hill on Saturday, August 3rd, with an unforgettable performance, enchanting the audience with her powerful voice and melodies.
